Why Does My Boss Wait Until The Last Minute For Me To Do Something Important?

I have sat around the office all day with nothing to do … 4:15 rolls around and now he wants me to sit on hold with Quickbooks, something I could have done hours ago for the problem we have been having all day and now I will be on hold probably much past 5 p.m.
Why can’t my boss recognize time?
